Maintenance of the 26.5km north bank gravel access road for the proposed Batoka hydroelectric scheme

ZRA/BNAR/09/2015: Tender for the maintenance of the 26.5km north bank gravel access road for the proposed Batoka hydroelectric scheme and the construction of a 30m wide & 750m  long gravel airstrip.

The Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) has set aside funds to finance various operations during the 2015 financial year and intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments for the works contract for the maintenance of the 26.5km North Bank gravel access road for the proposed Batoka Hydroelectric Scheme (BGHES) and to construct a 30m wide 750m gravel long airstrip. 

 ZRA is a corporate body jointly and equally owned by the Governments of Zambia and Zimbabwe. In addition to the operation and maintenance of Kariba Dam Complex, ZRA is mandated to investigate, develop, monitor and maintain new dam sites on the stretch of the Zambezi River (from Kazungula to Kanyemba) forming a common border between  the two Contracting States.

ZRA now invites sealed bids from eligible Bidders in Zambia for the maintenance of the 26.5km North Bank gravel access road for the proposed Batoka Hydroelectric Scheme (BGHES) and to construct a 30m wide 750m gravel long airstrip.

The scope of work will include among other things:

  1. Maintenance of the 26.5 km access gravelled road from Mukuni Village (Livingstone) to the Batoka Gorge Dam Site. The maintenance works include provision of additional storm water drainage structures.
  2. Construction of a new 750m long and 30m wide gravel airstrip. 

This tender is open to firms registered in Zambia as contractors of road works with the National Council for Construction (NCC) in Category R, Grades 3 and 4. Contractors’ current and past performance will be assessed prior to award of contract through a strict due diligence exercise conducted on the two (2) most recent projects completed.  

Bidding will be conducted through Open National Bidding Procedures and the complete set of tender documents are available on the ZRA Website; www.zaraho.org.zm. Bidders may also inspect the tender document from the Procurement Section on the 4th floor Kariba House, 32 Chachacha Road, Lusaka. A complete set of tender document may be purchased at the above address upon payment of a non-refundable fee of ZMW200 cash.

Bids must be placed in a sealed envelope clearly marked “TENDER FOR THE BATOKA NORTH ACCESS ROAD & AIRSTRIP accompanied by a bid security in the amount of ZMW110,000.00, must be deposited in the TENDER BOX placed on the 5th floor, Kariba House, Registry Office, 32 Cha Cha Cha Road Lusaka on or before 8th October 2015 at 1430 Hours Local Time.

Mandatory Site Visit will be held on 17th September 2015. The bidders are requested to meet at Protea Hotel, Car Park at 0730 hours. Departure to Site will be at 0800 hours. Following the site visit, a pre-bid meeting will be held to clarify all issues that bidders may raise. The venue and time of the meeting will be advised just after the site visit.

Questions and clarifications regarding this Tender must be submitted to Zambezi River Authority in accordance with provisions stated in the tender document no later than 25th September 2015.

The closing date for the receipt of bids is Thursday 8th October 2015 at 1430 hours local time. Bids shall be opened immediately thereafter in the Board  room on the 5th Floor, Kariba House, 32 Cha Cha Cha Road, Lusaka in the presence of bidders or their representatives  who choose to attend.     

LATE BIDS SHALL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
