Victoria Falls / Big Tree

The Kariba Lake is designed to operate between levels 475.50m and 488.50m (with 0.70m freeboard) for hydropower generation.

The Lake level has continued rising steadily, stagnating at the close of the period under review at 481.25m (41.19% usable storage) on 22nd June 2020.  Last year on the same date, the Lake level was at 479.56m (28.61% usable storage).

The Zambezi River flows at Chavuma are in recession, closing the period under review at 72m3/s as of 15th October 2025, whilst last year on the same date it was lower at 57m3/s.
